The Trix Elevator Conveyor was designed for the Trix Model Railway System to be used with the Operating Dump Wagon. Through a special switching device set in the track, coal was tipped from the dump wagon into the elevator’s hopper. When an empty wagon was shunted under the loading chute the elevator was set in motion, raising coal from the hopper onto the conveyor belt and thence carrying it to the loading chute and into the waiting truck. From 1954 to 1955 the Trix Elevator Conveyor was distributed by Polk’s Model Craft Hobbies in the United States. For further details about the elevator, see The History of Trix H0/00 Model Railways in Britain by Tony Matthewman .

It is believed that Adamson’s various drawings, among them this scene, were executed for the American distributorship. The American setting depicted here seems to bear this out.
